Candidate Statements: Planning Board

March 23, 2022 by Staff Writer

Kevin Grant

My name is Kevin Grant and I’m running for a seat on the Planning Board. I grew up in Fall River and lived in New Bedford for years before purchasing a home in Fairhaven with my wife in 2018. I am the East Coast Supply Chain Manager for Revolution Foods, which is based out of Oakland California.

My main reason for running is because at the time I pulled papers there were two open seats and no candidates for those positions. I am now one of three candidates in the running for the two seats. I have no greater political aspirations per se other than to serve the town and community. The fact that I know the seats will now be filled is in itself a victory.

My goals for the town are to support locally owned businesses as much as possible, ideally ones that hire locally and use local vendors as well. I also hope to see the vacant retail properties in town find occupants and to create an environment where our young entrepreneurs choose to start companies here rather than leaving to find their fortunes elsewhere.

I am committed to preserving our historic buildings as often as is possible until they can find tenants who agree to maintain the structural integrity and beauty of the property.

I believe that a healthy democracy is one based upon a collective effort, one which involves many voices and sometimes competing viewpoints. That being the case, I make no promises other than to stay true to my values and add my voice to the decisions made by the Planning Board as a group.

I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to run and would be grateful for your vote on April 4th.

I would like to wish good luck to all the candidates and hope for a good turnout at the polls.

Thank you.

Andrew Romano

My name is Andrew Romano, and I am writing today to ask for your vote for one of the vacant seats on the Fairhaven Planning Board.

Our community is entering an exciting time, with new voices eager to step up and represent the people of our quaint seaside town.

At the beginning of 2022, I decided to join the North Fairhaven Improvement Association. On April 4, I hope to become one of those new voices supporting positive change at the next level as well.

I am a lifelong Fairhaven resident and attended Fairhaven Public Schools from kindergarten through high school. My very first job was working for the Fairhaven Government Access Channel where I was introduced to the value of involvement in Town government. I am a local Realtor, and was even voted Best Realtor of 2021 by SouthCoast Today Readers. I often have clients vying to get into Fairhaven to enjoy the many and varied benefits of life in our town.

One of the highlights of my job is getting to brag about the community that raised me. And I believe that it is my time to give back. Working in real estate I will bring a unique perspective to the Planning Board. I know what makes a desirable town, and I look forward to being part of Fairhaven’s continued evolution.

I would appreciate your vote on April 4, and pledge that you will not be disappointed.

Thank you.

Sharon Simmons

I’m a lifetime resident of Fairhaven with a strong passion for my hometown, its people, its history, and its buildings.

My family of four generations has resided here. We love our town.

Being raised here, I’ve attended St Joseph’s School, Hastings Jr. High, and Fairhaven High School Class of 1979.

Not only was I raised here, I also work here, play here and know the community and people well.

I’ve been fortunate to introduce many people to Fairhaven to establish their place of residence.

When I was made aware of two seats open on the Planning board, I believed my 25 years of work experience and knowledge would be valuable to the town and its people. It is an opportunity for me to give back.

Removing obstacles and thinking out of the box, is what I do best.

I respectfully ask for your vote on April 4th, 2020.

Thank you!
