Anne Morton Smith
My name is Anne Morton Smith and while I am officially running unopposed, I am asking for your support in the April 4 election to become a member of the Board of Public Works.
A number of people have asked me “why?” and my answer is simple. I’d like to be part of what makes Fairhaven tick.
One of the reasons Fairhaven is such a great place to live is because we have so many people in it that care. Roads, parks, water, sewer, trees, beaches — these are all key components of our community’s foundation, and we have enjoyed the benefits of their stewardship and advancement.
I confess I have long taken this foundation for granted, even as I have watched improvements evolve. It’s so easy to be distracted by the natural beauty around us without understanding the work so many boards and committees do to both preserve it and make it enjoyable — and the BPW is a key player. Great things happen when people commit to the work, and I’d simply like to add whatever I can contribute to the mix.
I’ve never driven a plow, checked a sewer line, and until recently didn’t know what a pumping station does. I didn’t know how vigilant our water department is in protecting our safety. Like all of us, I believe trees are vital to our quality of life, and I recognize that their proper management is critical. I hope we can establish a single resource point that is well equipped to best sustain our shade trees in all parts of town.
I work with committees all the time in my day job, and I love it. Everything that makes Fairhaven so terrific requires teamwork and balance. I’m learning about all the mechanics of what our Board of Public Works is charged with supporting and advancing for the benefit of all, and am ready to join them as another steward of our resources.
Thank you for your support on April 4.
