Competencies and Commitment
As a community Fairhaven values the legacy of participation in our town’s governance; at the same time, our lives are largely on the fast track and the complexity and the challenges of town governance here and elsewhere have increased exponentially. To meet the needs of our community, local government isn’t just local anymore. Our leaders need to be to be able to navigate local, regional, state, and federal regulations and resources; to understand and weigh specialized and technical data that underlie effective decision making; and to collaborate with others to get things done. This reality requires us to be deliberate about the qualities and competencies we want in our Town leaders. With these things in mind, I am supporting Leon Correy for Fairhaven Select Board.
Leon Correy chose Fairhaven as the community in which he wanted to raise his family. Perhaps, you have met Leon and his family at a town activity or event. While he is a relative newcomer, he has already become part of the fabric of life in this community, serving on the Town Administrator Screening Committee and organizing the Town’s diversity and inclusion initiative Belonging. He is also a supporter of Fairhaven Forward and previously served on the Town’s Sustainability Committee.
Leon is open minded and willing to listen to others and is principled, qualities that we need in our leaders. He brings to the table professional expertise in finance and management that make him uniquely well equipped to look out for the Town’s financial interests in the deliberation of the mega-million dollar top priority projects ahead of us that include the EPA mandated sewer rehabilitation project and the proposed Public Safety Complex. While the big picture issues are important, he is someone who doesn’t lose sight of the day-to-day things that are important to people — securing a portable restroom for the Bike Path, advocating the needs of the EMT’s, and advocating traffic concerns at an Alden Road intersection.
We have the opportunity to elect someone to the Fairhaven Select Board who will bring fresh thinking and unique competencies to the issues we face as a town. He is someone who will put the interests of Fairhaven at the center of his role on the Select Board.
Please join me in voting for Leon Correy on April 4th. To learn more about him go to leoncorrey.com
