New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center will present “Can She Bait a Line?” a virtual talk by historian and poet Katrina Porteous on Thursday, February 10th at noon. The talk will be presented free of charge via Zoom. Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86095216612
Porteous’ talk will explore the lives of women in northeast England’s fishing communities, with a focus on the pre-WWII period, considering real-life examples from both small-boat and industrialized fishing.
Katrina Porteous was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, studied History at Cambridge, and has lived on the Northumberland coast for over 30 years, recording the lives of fishermen and women.

This program is part of Women’s Work, an exhibit and year-long program series exploring the lives, skills, and experiences of women who work in the fishing industry as well as those who are connected through family.
