There is actually, some pretty good rant material this week.
Alas, however, it is rather late, and one thing I learned is… write the rants earlier in the day. I may be sorry if I let my sleep-deprived brain go unfiltered on me here.
Suffice it to say, that the spat between the Historical Commission and the Bell Committee is material for another day. I should watch the meeting online anyway before commenting.
Oh…oh…oh….that reminds me. The town has started a YouTube page. It’s sooooo much easier to watch meetings now. The old system was terrible. It was extremely difficult to find meetings, and I had to use my ancient laptop to watch them. My newer computer couldn’t read the files. Go figure.
Anyway, you don’t have to do anything differently. Just visit the town’s website and click on the link. It’ll take you there.
And, by all accounts, the Historical Commission meeting from 9/7 is popcorn worthy.
I did pull one story this week because it got too late. The two elementary schools have revised their homework policies. They are now going to emphasize reading instead of traditional homework.
One thing the principal at Wood School, Amy Hartley-Matteson, wanted to stress was that they have not eliminated homework, they’ve just changed it.
They are encouraging reading to instill a love of learning.
As a writer, I couldn’t be more delighted. Homework is such a drudgery, a must-do task that causes parents and children to be at odds with each other when they should be hanging out watching TV or…NOT watching TV. Now, they can find a good book, something the kids want to read, and ditch the stress.
We’ll have more on this next week. I just hated to rush the story, and it got late.
Hey, now that I think of it, maybe I can talk to a couple of parents and some students to find out how it’s going, since it’ll be a few weeks into the program by then.
Yeah, that’s it. I held the story so I could talk to people.
