The Match
Dear Frankie,
I overheard my mom tell her friend Amy she wished she had someone special in her life. Amy suggested she go on the computer and contact Match.
Ever since she reached Match, she’s been on the computer, constantly writing and erasing.
Sometimes she gets so upset she calls Amy and asks, “Do you think I’m too forward? Should I say I don’t like sports? Tell me the truth, does my blue dress make me look fat?”
Recently she started talking in a funny voice on the phone and saying things like, “That’s so sweet of you to say that,” or “Have you always been such a star?”
For the life of me, I can’t figure out what’s come over her.
I asked my friends, and they were shocked I didn’t catch on that she was on a dating site. Fritzie said that’s where most of the moms find new dads.

Dear Chloe,
It does appear your mom has joined an online dating site. Her behavior is typical of people who haven’t dated for a while — dating as an adult is often stressful for those brave enough to take the plunge.
Your mom wants to be seen as charming and attractive and isn’t confident she’s going about it in the right way. Eventually, she’ll feel more comfortable about what she says and wears.
If your more pressing concern is that a new dad will show up any time soon, rest assured the chances are slim.
There is a saying: “You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince.”
In short, it means it’s going to take lots of texts, phone calls, and dates before your mom finds that special someone.
Have you considered that your mom may not be looking for a dad for you? Maybe she’s in search of someone she thinks is special and enjoys their company. If you do get a new dad, the good news is it doubles your chances for tummy rubs, walks, and treats. Sounds good to me.
