Sorry, no fun little rants this week. I’m simply too tired to engage with these people who have no idea what democracy is. It’s messy, it’s cumbersome, but that’s because it’s supposed to include people, regular people. And that means you can’t just go off and do what you want, even if you did find a way to argue that it’s all legal.
Oh…read last week’s editorial…it’s about that guy. We’ll get to a follow up on that eventually.
Meanwhile, as you know if you’ve been following my editorials for any length of time, the best part of this job is the people I get to meet. And I don’t mean just the town officials, but the regular people who simply attend and enjoy events and make them fun, and, of course, the volunteer, who..well..do stuff.
John Rogers was one of those people (see obituary on page 19). He always had a smile on his face as he was out and about volunteering at all kinds of events. If you have been to a few, there’s a good chance you’ve crossed paths. He was famous for running the antique fire truck, until he let his grandson take the wheel.
Fairhaven is worse off for his loss, absolutely. His family is already missing him a lot, I’m sure. And I will definitely miss seeing him at events with his big smile for everyone. Rest in peace, John. And condolences to his whole family.
On another note…
Big business news in Fairhaven this week. Fairhaven Lumber has been sold. Jimmy Kalife said it was time to move to the next chapter (see page 13). Good for you, Jimmy. Enjoy your retirement.
I swear, in the 16 years I’ve been doing this, there hasn’t been a single project that asked for donations that did not include Fairhaven Lumber as a donor.
We’ll miss you, Jimmy. I’m sure I’ll see you around.
