Fire Department Training
You may have noticed some activity at the old Tony’s Service Station at on Main Street and Wing Road.
The Town has entered into a no-cost agreement with Southcoast Development for the Fire & EMS Department to use the buildings for training prior to their demolition.
“Any opportunity to train is a win for our department. To have access to two residential structures as well as a commercial property allows us to train hard, train physically and to break stuff without getting into trouble,” said Acushnet fire Chief Kevin Gallagher. “We are all grateful to Mr. Higgins and his team for giving us this wonderful opportunity.”
No fire will be used in the training. Instead, firefighters will use an artificial smoke machine to reduce visibility.
Expect training to occur often including weekdays, weekends, daytime and early evening hours.
“Our goal is to train without the neighbors knowing we are there. If any inconvenience is cause please let me know and we will fix it,” said Chief Gallagher.
