Competencies and Skills Matter
I writing this letter to urge you to support Leon Correy in his bid for a seat on the Select Board in the Town of Fairhaven
I have had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Correy and to discuss his background and what he thinks he can contribute to a solid, realistic, open form of government for our town.
I am extremely impressed with his educational background in that he holds an undergraduate degree from Boston College and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago, one of the most prestigious business education institutions in the country.
I emphasize the foregoing for the following reason: the Town of Fairhaven will be facing two mega-million dollar projects in the near future, both the EPA mandated sewer rehabilitation project estimated to cost approximately $30,000,000 and the proposed Public Safety Complex estimated to cost $50,000,000.
These projects represent a fiscal obligation that this Town has never seen before. One has to agree that we need the best leadership and expertise in navigating these issues on behalf of the Town. I maintain that Mr. Correy is that individual who can deliver.
From a political perspective, Mr. Correy is “the new kid on the block.” He has no local political affiliations or alliances in Fairhaven. Historically, Fairhaven voters have tended to choose their elected officials based on alliances, not necessarily on needed skills and competencies. Our votes are often driven by friendships both personal and political, past service on other Town committees or boards, and “I don’t like the other guy.”
Leon Correy gives us an opportunity to move forward with a clean slate. He owes no one politically, he is open-minded, and he is willing to listen to one and all, qualities that we need in our leaders. He brings to this moment an expertise in finance together with a commitment to reach decisions that are in the best interests of the Town.
Competencies and skills matter. Please cast your vote for Leon Correy.
Bernard Roderick, Fairhavenc•••
