Fairhaven Can Choose a Woman for Select Board
The Fairhaven Historical Society has put together a display this summer entitled “Fairhaven Women who Made History.” I think it is wonderful to recognize and honor these women, some of whom were Suffragists and played a very important role in allowing all women to vote.
In Fairhaven this year we have some crucial decisions to make with our votes. We will vote on July 26th and recall a member of our select board. We have a choice to vote for one of three members of our community that have decided to run for this position. Right now, I feel the best choice would be a woman to be a member of our Select Board.
Stasia Powers has committed many years to various committees in town, some of which were elected positions and others not. She has experience in non-profits, local environmental organizations, budgets, managing volunteers and staff.
I know that on day one she will be able to start in this important role with the background and experience we need for our community. No one is perfect, I can’t think of a politician who I agree with on every single issue. It’s ok to ask questions, disagree and find solutions to some difficult issues that arise in our town. I know that Stasia is willing to listen, hear concerns and try to find the best way to work within our town government.
There are changes coming in Fairhaven, very positive changes, we need Stasia to be there now to fill this position on the Select Board. She will not only make history being the first woman on the town’s renamed Select Board but also, will use all her Powers to help our town continue to be a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.
