Republican states are free, Democratic states are not
The Republican state of Florida vs. the Democratic states of NY and California.
The intent of this letter is to contrast the differences in the way the states are governed, their policies and the results of them.
Consider the state of Florica, Ron DeSantis is the governor. He is a graduate of both Yale and Harvard law schools, served in the US Navy from 04-10, obtained the rank of Lieutenant Commander, served in the Iraq War and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Under his leadership Florida leads the way. At the outset of the coronovirus outbreak Ron DeSantis closely observed its effect on people and age groups. He noticed its disproportionate effects on age groups and that it was particularly infectious on elderly people, and that young school age children were relatively not affected by it.
There is a very sinister and disturbing aspect in the way elderly in the state of New York under the leadership of Governor Andrew Cuomo treated them. He odered all elderly patients who were being treated in hospitals back into nursing homes thereby infecting thousands more and causing the neadless deaths of thousands. He didn’t even use the Navy hospital ship and field hospitals set up by President Trump. In fact, trailers set up in NY were being filled with their bodies.
Not only this, he tried to suppress information of their death count. Only when I believe the Secretary of State exposed it, it became public.
In the state of Florida under Ron DeSantis’s leaderhip, elderly patients who were infected with the coronovirus were not discharged into nursing homes, thereby saving thousands.
Florida has become known as the education state for good reason. Its K-12 ranks third in the nation, its colleges are some of the best in the nation. After a brief shutdown during the height of the coronovirus outbreak, the schools reopened.
Florida is a state of school choice. Parents can send their child to any pbulic school they choose or a private school if they choose.
Florida’s schools were reopened last fall. Parents had the option of either in person or video instruction. Ron DeSantis closely monitored the effect of the coronovius on young people who were in schools and noticed the virus had little effect on them and they didn’t spread the virus.
Contrast this to the Democratic states of NY and CA where the teachers’ unions have a stranglehold on schools, and to the detriment of the students they remained closed last fall and throughout most of hte school year.
Crime is running rampant in the cities of NY and LA. Under their no bail laws violent criminals* are being released back into the public, police funding is being cut. Citizens are afraid to walk the streets. Businesses and people are leaving, going to Republican states like Florida.
There is a dramatic difference between the states. In the state of Florida, people enjoy freedom and liberty. In the Democratic staets of NY and CA, their freedoms are suppressed.
John Pond, Fairhaven.
* Neither New York nor California has “no bail” for violent criminals. It is a misnomer perpetuated by right wing media. In NY, judges are required to release people accused of misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies, but can also impose non-monetary conditions, such as electronic monitoring; in CA only those considered not a danger to the public are released without bail.
