Will Fairhaven ever get a legitimate Town Administrator?
With more than 20 percent of registered voters’ signatures on the recall petition having been certified, and the Select Board having voted to set the special election to replace Mr. Freitas, you’d think we are on the path to restoring dignity and trust in our town government.
Unfortunately, Mr. Freitas isn’t done doing all the damage he can before he’s gone. After threatening to bully the Town Clerk into undoing their signature certification, Mr. Freitas has turned to bullying recall volunteers with veiled threats of legal action.
Again, pathetic and shameful.
Next Mr. Freitas continues to undermine the process to find the next Town Administrator by unapologetically refusing to take any action toward finding a new Town Administrator. Doing so keeps his unqualified insider interim Town Administrator in place with no path to finding a qualified professional to lead our town government.
The biggest mystery in town these days seems to be why Mr. Freitas appears to need his handpicked (and screening committee rejected) interim Town Administrator in place. We can only hope the damage this is all causing can be overcome. And that recall election can’t come soon enough.
Phil Washko, Fairhaven
