Marc Cenerizio
My name is Marc Cenerizio, and I am a candidate for Selectman in Acushnet in 2021. I have lived here for 37 years with my family.
I currently serve as Chairman of the Board of Assessors, Chairman of the Planning Board, and serve as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, Community Preservation Committee and several other boards. I was recognized for my love of this town and humbly accepted the Standard Times “Acushnet Man of the Year” award in 2007.
I chose to run for Selectman to continue my participation in planning for the future needs and goals of our community. Revenues obtained through taxation make up approximately half of the entire annual operating budget. I understand the need to maintain fair and equitable taxation amongst all real estate classes.
I supported and was part of the creation of Acushnet’s Initial Master Plan in 2010. Over the past decade, the Master Plan has helped Acushnet grow and improve by creating new zoning which led to economic expansion and affordable housing. One of the reasons this was possible is due to the expansion of municipal water and sewer services. This availability made the Residential Village District a reality. If a Master Plan is in place for the next 10 years, it will help navigate the town in the right direction. I believe it will a be key component for Acushnet to have a successful future.
Over the past year, there has been a strain in the town’s relationship with PJ Keating since their relocation of the asphalt production plant. At this point, there is no permanent resolution as there is on-going litigation. I will work diligently for the outcome to be cost effective and favorable for the residents of Acushnet.
If elected, one of my goals will be to promote a good relationship among town departments and boards to get the job done. I will also concentrate my efforts in hiring a new full-time Town Planner to assist with the creation of a new Master Plan. A Master Plan is essential to maintain financial stability and growth by creating a checklist for objectives and goals.
I will also address the need for veteran and elderly housing. The Town of Acushnet currently does not meet the state’s guidelines for these groups who are too often overlooked.
I believe my many years of experience and understanding of this town makes me the right choice for Selectman. My passion for Acushnet is evident with my dedication to be a civil servant in several capacities. I would appreciate your vote on May 15. Remember, it is all up to US to keep Acushnet the place to be and the place we love!
Editor’s note: Incumbent Kevin Gaspar was invited to send a statement but did not make deadline.
