Fairhaven Lions Club Press Release
On August 6th, 2016, the Fairhaven Lions Club was presented with an award from the Mass. Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc., at their awards banquet, for our contribution of $5000.31 for Lions Year 2015-2016
It is a great honor for our club.
We wish to thank the institutions that sponsored our events, those that provided gifts to our raffles and Chinese Auction, those that attended our events and those that made donations to our organization. It was through your kindness and generosity that we were able to receive this award.
MLERF was started in 1953 and the first research grant ($5000) went to prevent baby blindness in premature infants. The solution was to install a valve in the incubators to control oxygen flow and blind baby disease was practically eradicated.
MLERFI has awarded grants exceeding $32 million dollars. The Board members are all volunteers with no paid staff. Visit their website http://www.mlerfi.org/
