Freitas not suited for Selectboard

April 28, 2021 by Staff Writer

How much simpler these contentious events might be if [Selectboard chair Daniel] Freitas, seeing that he is not suited nor able to function as an effective select person, would simply volunteer to step down from his current office.

There is precedence amongst our political leaders. Granted circumstances where a bit different, but take Richard Nixon as an example. Though Mr. Freitas is not convicted of “dirty tricks,” he is guilty of being overwhelmed by his current position and not acknowledging that fact. No doubt, Mr. Freitas would like to not be kicked around any more…echoing our 37th president.

We might also hope that Ms. Graves, for the sake of the town’s forward motion, might also remove herself from contention as Town Administrator. It is my experience that simply because one might be effective in one position, the effectiveness doesn’t necessarily translate to a new one.

Bow out. Be graceful. Let us all get back to the business at hand.

Susan Spooner, Fairhaven
