Fairhaven Town Clerk Carolyn Hurley swore in Deputy Fire Chief Joy Nichols and Lieutenant Josh Benoit during an official ceremony on 1/25/21 attended by the board, members of the Fire Department, and family members during the Selectboard meeting.
Ms. Nichols is the first woman appointed to a rank as high as deputy chief in Fairhaven. She joined the department in 2005 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2015. She holds a master’s degree in emergency service management and lives in Acushnet.
Mr. Benoit joined the department full-time in 2008 and since then has been “an excellent role model for new employees coming in,” said Acting Fire Chief Todd Correia, who praised Mr. Benoit for his positive demeanor and dedication. He lives in Fairhaven.
