When the weather turns cool, there is still plenty to do and enjoy outdoors, and the Buzzards Bay Coalition is here to help you with a few ideas for fall fun. The upcoming Bay Adventures for November offer activities for children and adults, and cover a range of outdoor activities. Each program also will incorporate social distancing measures recommended by public health officials and required by state regulations.
All Bay Adventures are free, but registration is required as space is limited. To register and for more info: http://savebuzzardsbay.org/events. The upcoming programs include:
• Watershed Bikers: Fort to Fort Sat., 11/7, 10 a.m. A casual, 16-mile ride starting from the Staples plaza in Fairhaven traveling the Phoenix Bike Trail to New Bedford and back again with stops at Fort Phoenix and Fort Taber Park for brief historical talks. .
• Bird Tour: Allens Pond Mon., 11/9, 9 a.m. Explore the grasslands of Allen’s Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Westport and Dartmouth. The walk will be led by a local birder and ecologist, and particiants will learn about the birds that live in the areas.
• Saturday at the Sawmill: Forest Bathing Sat., 11/14, 11 a.m. A mindfulness walk and guided introduction to “forest bathing” at The Sawmill in Acushnet. The aim of “forest bathing” is to cleanse away stress through immersion in nature.
Given current health concerns, the Coalition’s outdoor programs are restricted to small groups. Guests should bring and be prepared to wear masks. When equipment and supplies are required, there will be no sharing among participants. Additional safeguards may be put in place as appropriate.
