A group of residents and concerned citizens led by Russ Wotton decided that enough was enough with the trash at Marsh Island, aka Tin Can Island. They met bright and early on Sunday, 10/11, in the chilly hour around 7:30 a.m., at Riverside Cemetery and walked down to the spot that juts out into New Bedford Harbor. The spot gets loaded with trash from across the river, hence its colorful nickname.
The group of 14 volunteers picked up 33 bags of trash, 2 barrels and 21 needles.
“It’s gone. Mount Trashmore on Marsh Island Fairhaven,” wrote Mr. Wotton on his Facebook page. “A special thank you to all our 14 volunteers that came out Sunday morning…Great effort by everyone.
