Press Release
The Fairhaven Historical Commission wishes to publicly thank the Fairhaven Lions Club and their members for the thorough outside clean-up they performed at the Old Stone Schoolhouse on North Street.
The building, a single room school house built in 1828, is a popular stop for Japanese visitors following the Manjiro Trail.
The property was in need of some tree trimming, raking and mulch, so the Fairhaven Lions Club stepped up and volunteered to do an intense clean-up of the property which included mulching the flower beds.
“We have limited funds to maintain these historic properties so when someone steps up and offers to help for free, we graciously accept,” said Wayne Oliveira, Chairman of the Historical Commission that oversees all of the historic properties in town including Fort Phoenix, the Academy Building and the Old Firehouses, just to name a few.
The Fairhaven Lions Club is an international civic group serving the community for over 75 years. To learn more about joining the Lions Club here in Fairhaven contact President Bill Moniz at lc1914bb@aol.com
