COVID Testing Available for Acushnet Residents
The Acushnet Selectboad authorized the Fire & EMS Department to hold a community-wide Covid testing event. Firefighters and EMTs will be at the parking lot between the Elementary and Middle Schools this Saturday, October 10th fron 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm.
The type of test provided will be the definitive nasal swab test (PCR). Results can be expected anywhere from 24 to 36 hours after the samples are received at the lab. Testing is free of charge and is for Acushnet residents.
No reservations are required, no insurance cards, nothing but your nostril and some patience. We expect many will take advantage of this opportunity and ask you to bear with us as we tweak the process on the fly.
We ask that you wear a mask and maintain at least six feet of social distancing.
“The number of positive cases in Acushnet is rising, as they are across the region,” said Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher in a statement. “Earlier this summer we began beating the drum for testing in our community by the state. We were ignored. Thanks to town government we can offer this service and work toward containing the spread. We continue to test interested teachers and staff at the schools on a weekly basis.”
Early Voting Transportation
Early voting will soon begin for the Presidential/State Election. For those seniors needing a ride to the Parting Ways Building to vote, transportation will be available on Thursday, October 22nd starting at 8:30 a.m.
Only two riders, plus driver, will be allowed on the van at any one time. Residents will have to call the COA in advance for a reservation, wear masks the entire duration of the trip and have a temperature screening before boarding the van.

Free Senior IDs by Appointment
Thursday, October 15th from 11:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. under the outdoor pavilion at the Acushnet Senior Community Center.
The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office has launched a free public safety program for seniors. In just a few minutes, they can create a Senior ID card that has your name, photo and emergency contact.
It’s great as a second form of identification, and everyone is offered lanyards so seniors can wear it around their necks. This free program is offered in partnership with COAs and TRIAD groups across the Bristol County area.
