Well, the Board of Health continues to mortify and embarrass us. “Shitshow” doesn’t even begin to describe it. They fired the health agent on claims and charges that seemed not only petty, but unfounded (see page 7).
Not even getting into the substance of it, just look at the process. They all got to go through the seven points while the health agent had to be silent and wait her turn. But when she tried to address each item, she was constantly interrupted. Actually, interrogated is probably more accurate.
They would not let the former BOH chairperson speak, even though she could speak directly to at least one of the charges that the health agent was getting fired for.
And who’s the chairperson anyway?
This whole mess started when they would not vote Mike Silvia in as chair and he quit (that’s another story), so Peter DeTerra could be chair. But at every meeting I’ve seen so far, he is not running the meeting. At first it was Mike Ristuccia taking over the show, now it’s Geoff Haworth.
Oh, and then the technical difficulties. I’m not faulting Mr. Ristuccia for not being there in person. I’m sure he had something important to do in Boston. But…geesh..learn how to use the phone already. It would’ve been comical, except a woman’s career was on the line.
We should just call this meeting “Waiting for Mike’s iPhone” as one of the chatters on the Livestream put it.
As for the chickens…GEESH! We are a Right to Farm Community, since 2009. It’s right in the bylaws, available online, that she does not need a permit if she has more than five acres, and she does.
And you fired her over that? You called in her character over that? But, Mr. DeTerra can have a wedding on his farm in the middle of a pandemic, and that’s okay.
These meetings truly are often popcorn-worthy. But this one was cringe-worthy.
And they wonder why morale is low at town hall. Stop blaming the workers.
This town needs some changes.
We need quality people to step up and run for office and take on these roles.
We also need system change in this town. But…that’s a story for another week.
Until next week then…see ya (from a distance)
