COVID-19 update: Schools start classes

Local schools opened last week, with both Fairhaven and Acushnet using a hybrid model, meaning most students will have a combination of remote and in person learning. Some families opted to have students learn remotely full time, using tools that the schools provided with tailored a curriculum for the district.

Statewide, Massachusetts still has a low daily positive test rate at 1.57%

Fairhaven remains a “lower risk” community according to the state’s interactive map, which color codes cities and towns according to the number of cases/risk. Fairhaven is green, which is lower risk, but is not the lowest. Fairhaven had a two-week count of five cases, which is relatively higher than the two weeks prior. The town has a total of 264 cases, with an average percent positivity of 85%, which also represents a higher rate. A total of 6,052 tests were administered in Fairhaven.

Acushnet is gray on the map, the lowest risk. Total case count is 112, with fewer than five cases in the last two weeks, but it still higher than the prior two weeks. The town had a total of 2,815 tests, including 344 from the last 14 days. The percent positivity in Acushnet is 1.16%, which is higher than previous weeks.

Massachusetts has had 125,866 confirmed cases, with 2,105,178 individuals tested. As of Tuesday, 9,118 people have died in Mass. from the virus.

The Mass. travel advisory is still in effect. Anyone traveling to or from all but 10 states is required to self quarantine for 14 days. Exceptions include those commuting for work or school. The 10 states that are exempt from the restriction are Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.
