Protesters gathered in front of the Post Office in Fairhaven on Saturday, 8/22/20, to show support for the United States Postal Service, which has been under lots of controversy lately as Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has been making changes to the postal service in moves that critics say is purposely slowing down the mail before the November elections to sabotage mail-in voting around the country. Glen R. Williams of Fairhaven said he and his wife went to the Post Office with signs after hearing about nationwide protests. He said around 20 people were there and “there was nearly 100% approval from passersby and Post Office patrons. It’s an issue that affects us all.”
He said there was no organizing on his end.
“We were happily surprised to see the others show up,” wrote Mr. Williams in an email.” It was pretty impromptu. Very gratifying to see that there is an issue that almost everybody can agree on. The Post Office is very popular!”
