From the Editor 10-12-23

October 11, 2023 by Staff Writer

Well that was an interesting weekend, eh? Fun times with the Manjiro Fest (page 12), and a bunch of extremely angry, borderline violent protesters (page 13).

Well, your anger is misplaced. Direct it at the governor, not at town officials who are tyring to treat human beings with respect. Can you believe this? I’m agreeing with Thomas Hodgson. Will wonders never cease?

Oh, and no one is making you take anyone into your own home, so stop asking me if I’m taking any into mine. Maybe you should take in one of those homeless veterans you’re always screaming about.

Meanwhile, learn to read, okay? Every word of this paper is not mine. When we put those little quotation marks around words, it means those words were spoken by someone else. I very conscientiously (some say tediously) say who said what after each quote.

This is how it works (I’m going to make them bigger so you can see them better). This mark (“) goes at the START of a quote, and this mark (”) goes at the end. The words in between belong to the person who said them, not the reporter. For example, “I’m going to hit you with this sign you f——-g bitch.”

Yeah, someone said that to me, for real.

God help America.

Oh no! I forgot the Halloween yard info last week. That means we only have two weeks, this week and next for you to get your info in. We’ll be running the Halloween Trail in our 10/26 issue. Deadline is 10/20. See page 5 for details.

And before I sign off, I don’t want to ignore what happened in Israel this weekend. There is no excuse for that brutality. It seems that each terrorist group is just trying to do something worse than the one before it. Israel will be blind with rage. And I don’t blame them. I don’t know how it ends. But I know this behavior does not help. We need to stop scapegoating each other. The Jews are not the problem. The Arabs are not the problem. The immigrants are not the problem. The people who hate them and each other are the problem.

The mistake, as I read somewhere recently, is that we were taught to fear the witches, not the people who killed them.

God help us all when humans can inflict this kind of suffering on other humans, on purpose and solely for the sake of causing suffering. Because it certainly can’t be for any other end.

Until next week then, see ya
