Fairhaven will hold its 11th annual Veterans Day parade on Friday, 11/11, at 9 a.m.
Groups will form at Livesey Park in North Fairhaven. Veterans are asked to meet by 8:30. Parade will step off at 9 a.m. sharp.
The parade will travel along Main Street from Benoit Square in North Fairhaven, south to Fairhaven High School. A brief ceremony will include the raising of the impressive 30×50 foot flag.
Veterans who cannot march should go to the Senior/Recreation Center by 7:45 a.m., where transportation will be provided. Coffee and donuts for all veterans at the Senior Center until the vans leave for the parade. The Lions Club will provide free coffee and donuts at the North Fairhaven Improvement Association building in Benoit Square at 8 a.m.
Spectators are asked to line the route and go to the High School to show their support. Homeowners along the route are asked to display the US Flag. Organizers hope to keep Veterans Day as a time to remember the sacrifices that men and women in uniform have made in keeping this country safe and secure.
You can show your support for veterans by attending this event. Activities should end by 11 a.m.

Flag Raising
Veterans Day activities will also include flag raising and lowering ceremonies at Fort Phoenix in honor of Ernest “Ernie” Lewis, a Korean War Veteran.
At 8:00 a.m. join the Boy Scouts for a Flag Raising and Reveille. St 4:00 p.m. the flag will be lowered and folded. Ceremony includes Taps, flag Presentation, Cannon salute. By St. Mary’s Church, Troop 52, Scout Master Robert Dorgan; First Congregational Church, Troop 55, Scout Master, Scott Fernandes.
Ernie was a life time resident of Fairhaven. After serving in the army during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged from the service. He then established and operated Lewis collision Center, formerly Ernie’s Auto body, until his retirement. Ernie was always interested in classic cars. After his retirement, he refinished his 1953 Chevrolet and won many best of shows and first place trophies with it. He also joined the North Fairhaven Improvement Association. The first North Fairhaven Classic Auto Show was started by him and his friends from the Association. It ran successfully for many years. When it was time to restore the North Fairhaven Fire House, Ernie volunteered his help as much as he could. Ernie really enjoyed working there. He also enjoyed taking part in the Halloween Parade and the Easter Egg Hunt.
Ernie was married to his wife, Beverly, for sixty years. They had five sons, of whom he was so proud.Fairhaven to hold Veterans Day parade and flag raising
